GTM Architects is proud to share that the Howard University Alumni Center has been recognized by CREDA DC | MD with a 2026 Award of Excellence for Best Interiors (25,001-75,000 SF). The award, which honors outstanding achievements in real estate across the region, is a testament to the collaboration between our clients, consultants, and construction partners. The alumni center was a collaboration between GTM Architects, GTM|DC, and Coakley & Williams Construction.
Serving as both an administrative hub and a vibrant gathering space, the Howard University Alumni Center is designed to be a compelling physical expression of the university’s history, culture, and enduring legacy. The space is centered around a monumental stair and an illuminated Tree of Legacy light feature. The stair is framed by a wood-paneled feature wall that showcases backlit portraits of iconic alumni within custom lightboxes in an architectural expression of perseverance and achievement.
The space also includes contemporary workplaces, coworking environments, hospitality-focused amenities and a 2,700-square-foot event venue that can support a wide range of programs. The university’s identity is integrated through custom graphics, university-inspired materials, signature blue accents and intentionally framed views.
