Our renovation at 899 North Capitol Street has been featured in a new ArchitectureDC article, "Municipal Bonding: Smartly Renovated Building Accommodates an Assortment of DC Agencies." The project, which renovated a 1970s-era office building only blocks from the U.S. Capitol, was a collaboration between GTM Architects, GTM|DC, and STUDIOS Architecture.
GTM Principal Traci Weems and GTM|DC Senior Associate Susan Mentus worked together on the complex renovation. "Our goal was to activate the streetscape, break down the massing, overcome the 15-foot-wide moat, and reconnect the building to the sidewalk," Weems said.
The design team created a two-story, 2,400 SF addition with a double-height glazed curtainwall that provides views to the surrounding neighborhood. Inside, a new entry welcomes visitors with warm white oak paneling and stone and terrazzo flooring.
