Bethesda Magazine’s feature “Grand Remodel” spotlights a reimagined 1923 Tudor designed by GTM Principal Luke Olson, that preserves its historic character while bringing renewed comfort and modern functionality to family living.

For Dave and Linsey Goch, Bethesda’s Edgemoor neighborhood had long been the dream. Twenty-five years after first admiring its tree-lined streets and mix of historic homes, the couple finally found their forever house—a 1923 Tudor in need of new life. Working with Luke Olson, AIA, of GTM Architects, they transformed it into a timeless family home that respects its past while embracing the way families live today.

The home’s exterior retained its Tudor charm, but the interior required a full reimagining. Olson reworked all four levels within the original footprint, expanding the house from 4,255 to 5,510 square feet of livable space. The new layout centers around a gourmet kitchen that serves as the hub for daily life, connecting to a light-filled breakfast room created from what was once a screened porch.

Outside, GTM maintained the home’s historic street presence while refining its details—fresh trim, new windows, and a detached two-car garage that preserves the backyard. Every move honors the home’s 1920s spirit while introducing clean lines, durable materials, and a modern sense of flow. “We wanted it to be one of the grande dames of the neighborhood, an old house that looks elegant and appropriate for its age, but everything inside is new,” says homeowner Dave Goch.
