An Artist's Retreat

Designed as a lifelong home for an artist, this contemporary home integrates creative work, art display, and everyday living into a cohesive whole that can adapt over time. A dedicated artist studio was integral to the program, shaping the planning, section, and daylighting strategy. Interior surfaces, lighting, and concealed mounting systems were designed to accommodate rotating and permanent artwork, ensuring flexibility while maintaining visual clarity.

Natural light is carefully channeled throughout the home, with expansive views reinforcing transparency and connection to the site. The home’s sectional design, including the cantilevered media room, brings daylight deep into the lower level, allowing the artist studio to function as a comfortable and adaptable workspace.

Extensive use of maple across floors, walls, ceilings, and built-in elements establishes warmth and cohesion, culminating in a fully enclosed maple-lined corridor. Concealed systems, including integrated art hanging hardware, motorized window shades, and kitchen storage maintain visual calm while allowing spaces to adapt over time.
