Bethesda, MD
Using an elegant palette of stone, glass, wood and metal, GTM’s design for this contemporary pool house combines these natural materials in perfect harmony to create a warm, luxurious and textured space. The detached structure offers a beautiful respite for the homeowners, featuring a kitchenette, living space, bathroom and outdoor shower with direct access to the pool. A composition of new varied flora softens the pool house structural palette while weaving it into the existing lush landscape. The basic idea of a large, cantilevered roof — dressed in dark bronze metal and mahogany, resting on natural stone walls to shelter both an outdoor shower and interior living space — appears here with effortless simplicity. The open-air shower is gently bathed in sunlight from pergola roof openings above. A series of full-height, 11-foot-tall custom glass sliding wall panels provide an unobstructed visual and physical connection, allowing the wood plank ceiling and stone walls to span seamlessly from inside to out. The warm palette of wood, stone and glass is enhanced with a raw, blackened steel fireplace surround to serve as the indoor living area focal point.
