Modern and Dramatic Brewery Restaurant

For the Washington, DC location of Crooked Run Fermentation, GTM Architects developed a re-envisioned, modern aesthetic for their brewery and restaurant located in the bustling Union Market District. Steps away from Gallaudet University, GTM’s design team had the opportunity to assess and incorporate principles set forth in the DeafSpace Design Guidelines into the overall concept for the spacious dining room and bar.

This modern take on a brewery conveys a bright, crisp white design fringed with soft woods, copper tones and a touch of green. Patrons can relax at the bar ledge that opens to the outdoors via a large, glass garage door or choose from a variety of seating that include banquettes, standing drink ledges, dining tables and high tops. With the bar as a main focal point, the design utilizes a striking wood slat system that extends from wall to ceiling and back to wall. Rows of undulating acoustical panels subtly draw attention to the ceiling, emphasizing the dramatic ceilings heights of more than 16 feet while also providing acoustical treatment throughout the space.
