Classic Cape Cod Designed for Longevity

Looking to downsize from their current home, our clients requested a classic cape cod designed to suit the existing neighborhood. Clad in stone with a traditional slate roof and paneled operable shutters, the modest appearance of this timeless two-story home belies its actual size, boasting five bedrooms and five and one-half baths spread over nearly 6,000 square feet of living space.

The design of the house focused on prioritizing features that would allow the clients to age in place, including a zero-step entry and unrestricted route through the primary spaces of the house, a first-floor owner’s suite with curbless shower and en-suite laundry room, and upsized doors that would accommodate future accessibility needs. The main foyer provides a spectacular introduction to the home, with a paneled staircase climbing up over a barrel-vaulted entry hall that invites guests inward to the open family room and dining room beyond. The second level features an alternative owner’s suite along with three additional bedrooms, and an unfinished basement offers potential renovation spaces for future resale.

Every inch of the home was meticulously detailed, from the wood-paneled study featuring a reclaimed circa 1830 antique Greek revival mantel to the cozy breakfast nook with built-in bench seating. Reclaimed wood floors throughout demonstrate the careful thought invested in every aspect of the home’s design. The bespoke detached garage with a custom elliptical carriage-style garage door provides the perfect complement to this quintessential cape cod.
