Located in DC’s historic Cleveland Park, this traditional home was elegantly transformed and expanded with a contemporary addition. GTM designed the addition using different roofing materials and windows to differentiate it from the existing architecture, while still blending the styles for consistency. The renovation increased the home’s livable space by more than 1,600 sf, and created an enlarged kitchen, dining and living room. Reworking the main stairs and incorporating enlarged roof dormers for the attic space also created further space in the house. The basement garage was maximized to fit a car, mudroom and living space, a fully excavated area was added below the addition, and an exterior terrace was created to accommodate an exercise area. The final result is a beautiful, functional and modernized home that comfortably suits its surrounding neighborhood and stylishly blends the old and new.
